Emergency Action: Support House Over Senate on Plastic
Please contact your Senator and urge them to reject the current version of SF 3561 in favor of House HF 3577. The original bill provides several changes in statute that would reduce or reliance on plastic, reduce chemical poisons linked to plastic, reduce single use plastics, along with several other positive provisions.
The Senate version appears to exempt commercial waste, which is huge, allow for some shady alternative collection systems, and makes other changes that weaken the impact of any law that might be passed.
The Senate version of the bill is watered down in ways that experts regard as potentially harmful and dangerous long term. This appears to be a case of pre-emptive regulatory capture by the plastic and waste industries. This is not a surprise. What is a surprise is that the Minnesota DFL Senate Caucus is being manipulated so seriously.
Call or email your Senator now. Find their contact details HERE.
Also please contact these senators, who are authoring the current version, most of whom are DFLEC endorsed in past elections, to urge that the HOUSE version of the bill prevail:

And if you don’t get this message soon enough, CONTACT THEM ANYWAY because we want it understood that the DFLEC does not regard industry shenanigans with amusement.
Thank you very much.
