DFLEC Action Alert for Jan. 16, 2025
Support your DFL House member, Clean Water/Boundary Waters Alert, and Help David Gottfried!
Dear DFL Environmental Caucus member,
After attending a crazy opening day at capitol and a Friends of the Boundary Waters lunch meeting, there are a few actions we urge you to take.
Email or call your DFL House representative to let them know you have their back!
Please support their action to not show up at the capitol to prevent the extreme overreach by the House Republican Caucus. They continue to threaten to not allow Brad Tabke to be seated despite the court ruling that upheld the results of his election in 54A, and refuse to honor the conditions of their power sharing agreement with Speaker Hortman. Secretary of State Steve Simon adjourned the legislature after failing to meet quorum on Tuesday but the House Caucus continued business anyway.
If you are represented by a republican in the house let them know you do not approve of their actions as described above.
You can find their email and phone number here: https://www.house.mn.gov/members/list
MAGA alert - Clean Water at risk!
On the federal level, there is much concern about a Trump-led administration reinstating leases for Twin Metals to mine in the Rainy River Watershed of the BWCA. Congresswoman Betty McCullum’s HR668 Boundary Waters Wilderness Protection and Pollution Prevention Act will be reintroduced in Congress. This bill would permanently ban sulfide-ore mining from on federal lands in the watershed of the Boundary Waters. Please tell Senator Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar and Congresswoman Angie Craig to support it. See Friends of the BWCA Action page.
This is important because Congressman Pete Stauber has introduced H.R. 3195 which would reverse the current 20 year ban on mining and require the re-issuance of every mineral lease in the Superior National Forest. See Friends of the BWCA legislative action page for more information and write to tell your representatives to oppose this bill.
